Finally Some Pictures!

Here is a picture of Jim and I and our oldest grandson. Not the best picture but it is what I have. Usually I am the one behind the camera so I'm not in many pictures!

Here is my oldest son, Barry; his wife, Andrea and their son, Caden. They just celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary a few days ago. They also just bought their first house! I
haven't even seen it yet. Hopefully today or tomorrow. They are expecting another baby in January. We should know what it is on Tuesday!!! Lots of good things for them.

Well that is it for now. Keep checking back as I will add more of my family now that I seem to have figure it out!

Fall Questionnaire

How long have you been knitting or crocheting? How did you learn? or from whom?

I have been crocheting since I was in college. I pretty much taught myself. At that time I pretty much did big projects like afghans. In 1986 my twins were born. I had a little boy that wasn't quite 3 also. I started crocheting small thread projects. I loved it! I made lots of doilies to give as gifts and when I finished a project I felt such a sense of having accomplished something, because no matter what I did around the house there was always a little one undoing it! I learned to knit about 3 years ago. I'm a teacher and I was watching another teacher knit a sweater at lunch time. I decided I'm going to do that too. I tried and what a mess! I was talking to a friend about it and she commented about me being left handed. She told me to sit across from the person and watch closely. I went home and tried again, and voila,,,I'm knitting on a daily basis now!

What was your first felted object, and why did you decide to try felting?

My first felting project was a small change purse. There was a kit available at my LYS so I bought it because I thought it looked neat and I'm always willing to try new things. Well I was hooked and love to felt whenever I can!

What are your favorite colors? Any you hate?

I love muted colors. I'm not a big fan of fluorescent colors. Fall colors, roses and mauves, blues, greens,,, pretty much anything!

What are your favorite styles\types of bags? (Long straps? Short handles? Handbags? Totes? Embellished? Plain? Include links to patterns or photos if you’d like – give your pal an idea of what you enjoy!)
I love any kind of bag! The more unique the better. I would love something that is embellished in some way. Of the bags I have my favorites are the ones that have some kind of added decorations. Short or long handles- either is great. I tend to change the bag I carry every few months and use whatever catches my fancy.

What handbag or bag are you carrying today? Do you use a separate bag to carry your knitting?
Today I am carrying a bag that I crocheted about 8 years ago. It is a beige color with beads crocheted around the top and long handles. It is a summer bag for sure. Lots of room! Sometimes too much,,,I throw everything in and then can't find things when I need them! I usually carry a separate bag for knitting. I have an absolutely gorgeous tote that I received from a woman in Australia in a different exchange. It is my favorite knitting bag!

What other things do you enjoy knitting or crocheting?
I pretty much only knit at this point. I still will crochet doilies and runners if someone wants them. As far as knitting goes,,, I love to knit dishcloths, socks, afghans, sweaters, baby things, scarves, hats. I knit lots of things and give most away as gifts. I also knit some baby things in memory of my grandson and donate them to hospitals.

What sort of needles do you enjoy working with? (straights vs circs, bamboo vs aluminum)
I tend to use bamboo circular needles a lot. When knitting dishcloths I use shorter bamboo straights. When knitting socks bamboo DPNs are my favorite.

What’s one project you’ve not yet tried but are dying to make?
A shawl for myself. I actually have the yarn for one but just haven't gotten around to it!

What’s one yarn you’ve not yet tried but are dying to work with?
I have never knit with a mohair or angora yarn. I would love to try something in those yarns one of these days!

What other hobbies do you have? Do you spin? Sew? Garden?
Reading, gardening, yarn shopping, walking

Besides yarn, do you collect anything?
Angels!

What kind of goodies do you enjoy? Sweets? Salty? Anything you hate or are allergic to?
I love chocolate, especially dark chocolate and pretty much anything salty.

Do you have any kiddos? (Furry kind count!)
I have 3 sons- Barry, Joshua and Daniel, a daughter in law-Andrea, 3 grandsons - Caden (3), Gaven (3 on Friday) and Landon ( born prematurely on 1/9/07 and passed a few hours later) and a new grandbaby on the way! My fiance- Jim and I also have 2 horses- Cody and Sunny, 2 dogs- Bart and Duchess, and 2 cats- Yeller and Snickers. As you can probably tell, we keep quite busy!

What kind of project best personifies you and why?
I would probably have to say anything for babies or children. I love kids! I work with them on a daily basis and they make such a difference in my life. When I knit for babies or children, I always hope that whatever it is, it makes a little difference in their lives.
What is your favorite part of Autumn? You can also share a special Autumn memory if you'd prefer!

I would have to say the cool nights and warm sunny days. The beautiful colors! Apple picking! I remember a time when my twins were just infants ( they were born in August) and we went apple picking. I was carrying one in a sack on my front and my husband was carrying the other. Long scenic drives.

Tell us 3 things you would do if you won 10 million dollars in the lottery.
First, I would probably quit my job, but I would not stop working with children. I would still go to the preschool I work in and read and play with the children and do anything that needed to be done. Second, I would start trust funds for each of my grandchildren so I'd know they could get a good education in the future. And third, I would open a
yarn/craft store somewhere. For years it has been my dream to have someplace people could go to share their talents and products with others.

Well there it all is in a nutshell. A BIG nutshell! I am a little late getting this done so I need to post it now. I will try and post some pictures later.

This Year

When the New Year started my goal was to get myself organized. My knitting self that is! I want to organize my stash, my patterns, my needles and any other knitting paraphernalia I have. So far I have gotten most of my patterns organized in labeled binders to make them easier to access. Other than that I haven’t done much! Another thing I wanted for the New Year was to knit from my stash, not buying new yarn. I was doing fine with that until recently when my grandson was born prematurely and passed away. I decided then to knit for the hospital where he was born. They are low on blankets, hats, etc. I see how much my daughter in law appreciates the hat she was given and want to give that to other families. To do this I needed to buy baby yarn or at least colors that would be appropriate for babies. So that is what I did! For the last week I have been busy knitting hats and blankets. I have 5 hats and 1 blanket done so far. I have never knitted for charity before and it feels good. My goal it to bring a bunch of stuff to the hospital on February 1, 2007. Before then I will post pictures and share a little more about me and my family.
